Reactive Concrete Stain
Chem-Coat Industries Reactive
Concrete Stains will enhance new and existing concrete by adding
decorative and unique shading of colors. The variegated and translucent
color effects are a result of the unique formulation of blended acidic
metallic salts. Chem-Coat Reactive Concrete Stains become part of the
concrete surface, due to a chemically reactive process, and will wear
only as the concrete wears. Mixing different Chem-Coat Reactive Concrete
Stains together can also achieve dramatic results, thus creating your
own unique colors. Chem-Coat Reactive Concrete Stains are available in
12 unique colors - ready to use. Special colors may by available upon
request.
TESTING & MIXING
Read all cautions and Material
Safety Data Sheets before any work is started. Always do a small test
before project installation in an inconspicuous area. Because of the
nature of all stains, the final color may vary throughout the
installation, depending on the age, texture, finishing techniques, and
other variables within the concrete surface. When mixing different Chem-Coat
Concrete Stains together for additional unique colors, a record of the
mix ratios should be made for reference, should future color matches be
required.
BASIC APPLICATION
-
For Professional Use Only!
-
Protect all surrounding areas
before staining. Rope off areas to be stained and keep all traffic
clear of the area until the installation is complete. Wet floors can
be slippery!
-
Wear suitable protective gear,
read all cautions below and all Material Safety Data Sheets.
-
Chem-Coat Reactive Concrete
Stain is provided ready to use.
-
Concrete must be cured a minimum
of 28 days.
-
Curing compounds, sealers,
membrane forming products, and bond breakers applied to the concrete
surface prior to staining will affect the ability of the stain to
properly react with the concrete. Concrete surfaces must be clean
and free of all foreign contaminants such as curing compounds, bond
breakers, oil, sealers, dirt, paint, and cleaning residue. Sanding,
power scrubbing, and/or additional cleaning methods may be required
to totally clean the concrete surface of all contaminants
-
Use Non Metallic Equipment. Chem-Coat
Reactive Concrete Stain will react with metals, therefore the use of
brushes, brooms, sprayers and buckets that are non-metallic is
recommended. An acid resistant hand pump sprayer can also be used.
-
Always use caution when opening
the containers of product. Do not allow containers to stand on
untreated concrete areas after opening, as staining will occur if
the material is spilled.
-
Always use in a well-ventilated
area.
-
Always do a small test in an
inconspicuous area before project installation, to insure approval
and compatibility of all products and desired color. Read all labels
and technical sheets before using Chem-Coat Reactive Concrete Stain.
Always check local codes for all Federal and State Regulations,
along with the appropriate safety standards. Dispose of left over
stain product and/or stain residue in accordance with these
regulations. For further questions, please contact Chem-Coat
Industries, Inc.
-
Start With a Small Test Area.
Choose an out of the way area. Because of the nature of all stains,
the final color may vary throughout, depending on the texture, age,
and other variables within the concrete. When mixing Chem-Coat
Reactive Concrete Stains together for custom effects, a record of
the mix ratios used should be made for future reference.
-
Depending on the color desired,
an application of two or more coats of stain may be required. Allow
Chem-Coat Reactive Concrete Stain to remain on the surface between
applications, and after the final application until the chemical
reaction is complete, a minimum of approximately four hours.
Coverage is about 150-200 S.F. per gallon, per application,
depending on the porosity of the concrete.
-
Scrub Chem-Coat Reactive
Concrete Stain into the concrete as soon as it applied to the
concrete surface, keeping the brush in constant contact and motion
with the surface. Keep a wet edge and a uniformly saturated surface.
Gradually spread the stain until fizzing stops. DO NOT allow the
stain to puddle, splash, or drip on the floor or treated surface, as
darkening and discoloration from the rest of the floor, or treated
surface, will occur.
-
Remove Chem-Coat Reactive
Concrete Stain residue by wet scrubbing with a neutralizing cleaner,
then rinse the surface until the rinse water is clean. All residues
must be removed before any coating can be applied. Use caution when
handling the stain residue and water drainage. Protect all adjacent
foliage and soil from over-spray and runoff. Use an acid resistant
wet vacuum and follow all governmental regulations for disposal.
-
SEALING: We suggest the use a
high quality, non yellowing, concrete sealer containing at least 25%
solids with a UV inhibitor to seal the concrete after the color and
desired look has been achieved. The sealer will enhance and darken
the stain color. Do a small test in an inconspicuous area prior to
project installation to insure compatibility of all products. Read
all instructions, warnings, and limited liability statements on all
product labels and technical sheets before using Chem-Coat Reactive
Concrete Stains. Allow sealer to cure before exposing to any
traffic.
-
Do not use plastic floor
protection - Kraft paper is preferable. DO NOT TAPE TO FLOOR.
NOTE: Palm Green, Aqua Mist, and
Byzantine are for INTERIOR USE ONLY. These colors will react with water
and moisture in the concrete, and over time will darken or blacken when
exposed to water.
THINGS TO REMEMBER
-
Read all cautions and basic
application instructions before working with material.
-
The color will vary throughout
the concrete slab. Always do a test area first. Read all directions
and instructions before project installation begins. For
Professional Use Only!
-
The colored concrete is beneath
the dried residue, which must be washed off after the chemical
reaction is complete to reveal the color of the stained concrete.
-
Palm Green, Byzantine, and Aqua
Mist Stain Colors are intended for interior use only. These colors
will react with water and moisture, and over time will darken or
blacken when exposed to moisture in the concrete. On interior
installations, protection from hydrostatic pressure and moisture
should be a part of the initial concrete design and slab
installation criteria.
-
Chem-Coat Reactive Concrete
Stain will not hide surface cracks or other blemishes in the
concrete, and may accentuate imperfections within the concrete
finish.
-
Chem-Coat Reactive Concrete
Stains have a shelf life of approximately six to nine months. Rotate
Stock.
